Newer models from the state-of-the-art manufacturer from China quickly forget the still very good drone DJI Phantom 3 Standard from the year 2015 in the discussion about DJI drones. Comparison to DJI Spark
You may be wondering why the DJI Phantom 3 Standard is suggested here for beginners for $706 if the newer DJI Spark costs just as much (or relatively little). Well, compared to the DJI Spark, the DJI Phantom 3 Standard still has some advantages. I would like to explain this to you in an overview:
|DJI Phantom 3 standard||DJI Spark|
|3-axis stabilized||2-axis stabilization|
|Flight time with one battery: 25 minutes||Flight time with one battery: 16 minutes|
|12 MP photos and HD video (up to 2.7K)||12 MP photos and HD video (up to 1080p)|
|Range up to 1 km||Range in Germany up to 300 meters|
|Controller in the price of € 599 included||Controller only included in Fly More Combo for $942|
|Videos are better, 3-axis gimbal makes movements smoother||Videos are good, but could be better (see test)|
|Watch in the DJI Store||Watch in the DJI Store|
There are also two small negative points in this comparison, one must admit for completeness: because the DJI Spark is smaller and lighter than the DJI Phantom 3 standard, and it brings an obstacle detection (front). But if you fly in sight, then you should be able to dodge obstacles with a little practice or see them when approaching 😉
The best of both worlds: DJI Mavic Pro
And to confuse you again, I throw the DJI Mavic Pro as the third possible mini-drone in the round. It combines the compact design, the mobility and the extensive flight modes of the DJI Spark with the (approximate) photo and video quality of the DJI Phantom 3 Standard. However, it currently costs 1199 ¬, which of course speaks for savers again for the phantom. More information about the DJI Mavic Pro can be found in the above-linked test, in this article, and in the DJI Shop.
DJI GO App – Details and Download
The control of the DJI Phantom 3 standard drone is realized via the supplied controller. So that you can see in real-time what the camera is recording and so that you can use some additional functions, you should connect a smartphone or tablet (Android or iOS) to the controller and then run the DJI GO app. It brings alive HD image of the camera, better control, and control of the camera, archiving and editing functions for videos, tutorials and tutorials, and much more. Here is the download link for Android devices. And here a download possibility for iPhone and iPad:
What about Phantom 3 Advanced and Professional?
Right, these models were synonymous times. However, the production was discontinued in early 2017 and the models were taken from the range of the DJI online shop. Nevertheless, the available since 2015 DJI Phantom 3 standard is still worth a purchase recommendation – this also means that this model just was not set and exchanged for the newer camera drones,😉 after all, it is with their price of 599 € and the included therein Features unbeaten and an indispensable part of the range for all user groups
An even cheaper price – of course on Amazon
If you look around in the technical categories at Amazon, then you can discover one or the other bargain. And so I found in the research for this article also the possibility to buy the DJI Phantom 3 standard cheaper. With a price of 509 € is the camera drone for beginners 90 euros cheaper than in the official manufacturer online shop. However, it should be noted: the sale is made by a third party (shipping, however, by Amazon), you have to order accessories separately or yet again in the DJI shop and also the insurance offer is only there. Here for the sake of completeness, the Amazon offer to buy cheaper:
Why not buy the Phantom 4 Pro?
The DJI Phantom 4 Pro, as well as the model without “Pro”, are powerful drones, which as a successor of the Phantom 3-series bring more power, a bit better camera and other innovations as well as innovation of the Chinese copter manufacturer. However, you might be deterred by the prices of the 4 Series models, especially if you are looking for a beginner model for hobby pilots or the upcoming vacation. For example, for the 4 Pro model, you are currently paying € 1699 in the DJI Shop. If you still want to read the details, technical values and so on, then I recommend you this comparison of Phantom 4 and Phantom 4 Pro.
What about Inspire 1 and 2?
Admittedly, DJI has launched some quadrocopters of the extra class in recent years. The camera drones offer good flight characteristics, a favorable and dominant quality instability, useful photo and video recordings, super workmanship and the like … And with the many models, it can happen that you get bogged down in search of the right drone. So here just so much: The DJI Inspire 1 and the DJI Inspire 2 are professional drones for movie productions and the like. In addition, they cost up to 3399 €. If you want to know why they cost so much, I recommend this article: DJI Inspire 1 and DJI Inspire 2 in comparison.
Other important information
In Germany, as well as in the countries of the EU and the rest of Europe, there are some important rules to follow when you want to fly drones and model aircraft. Also for camera shots from the air rules and laws are to be observed. Therefore, here is a collection of guide articles on the topic:
Presentation of the camera drone in the video
In the end, DJI has the right drone for every user. The DJI Phantom 3 Standard is a recommendation for all beginners and those who want to have a high quality quadrocopter with HD camera and 3-axis gimbal and other features. Too much you do not have to pay for the whole set including the battery, controller, and all the trimmings. But then you get a really good camera drone, which also in comparison with newer models, which were developed and built by DJI after 2015, still some advantages.
